My VTEC won’t kick in, yo!

But seriously, something is wrong.

Lady SonicGabe’s mom has a 2007 Accord. The other day, the check engine light comes on and the tranny seems like it’s missing/slipping when it’s trying to change gears at 2500 rpm or higher. But, under lighter throttle, it’s just fine. We drove it around for a while and it kept doing it.

Later, when Moms drove it, it did it for her a few times. But then the check engine light turned off and the car drove perfectly fine. Lady SG drove it again today and it was fine.

A bit more than two years ago, it was doing the same thing and Lady SG replaced the Intermotor Valve Timing Oil Pressure Switch, which fixed it.

Is this a known issue for this car, 2007 Accord 4cyl, automatic? Does this part just suck and need to be replaced again so soon? Or is this a sign of a much worse issue?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the transmission fluid level.

Will do that. I think the car in question just pulled up.

I spent 8 or 9 months on my cr-v replacing things unecessarily all for a ground wire. gave me mystery power loss between 2500-3500rpm. it was a manual so not a tranny issue. ran great after i replaced a bunch of shit but the cure was replacing the ground from the head to the rad support, it looked fine but was corroded inside the insulation with the strands touching the crimped connector showing some green crud. replaced and it cured all personality issues forever.

might not be it but look closely at your ground straps before you throw money at it. it might just be old and need some shade tree troubleshoot.

Fluid looks ok. Probably need to change it, but it looks fine.

Then according to Dash-doorhandle-and-bondo, I’d take a look at the electrics. Could be just the ground.

Cool. Two votes for the ground.

Thanks. Will report back. But as of right now, it’s still fine. I think we’re about to go take it out for a spin. Won't be able to look at the grounding until tomorrow.

Before we could do that, all went back to normal.

So we just drove it around for a bit. The VTEC kicks in, yo! Everything is as it should be at all speeds and rpm.
